Adama Brazil has achieved 0 residue production of Prothioconazole and a 70% reduction in the waste of Picoxystrobin
Adama recently announced that it has made significant progress in sustainable production at its technical synthesis facility in Taquari, Brazil. The company has successfully achieved 100% recycling of the main waste from the production of Prothioconazole, while reducing the waste from the production of Picoxystrobin by 70%.
According to Adama Brazil's Innovation and Sustainability Manager, this breakthrough is the latest result of the company's sustainability strategy. In addition to new waste treatment technologies, Adama uses 30 to 80 percent biodegradable or renewable ingredients in its products.
Prothioconazole and Picoxystrobin are the key active ingredients for controlling soybean diseases in Brazil. In Brazil, the world's largest soybean producer and exporter, with around 45 million hectares planted this season, fungicides play a vital role in protecting crops, ensuring food security and farmers' returns.
Prothioconazole
In the production of Prothioconazole, Adama has innovatively solved the problem of ferrous chloride waste. The company is the only one in Brazil that manufactures and supplies the drug to other companies. By developing a new recycling strategy, Adama went from an initial recycling target of 50 percent to eventually recycling 100 percent of the primary waste at the plant. In addition, the company has modified the biological treatment plant to achieve a full internal treatment of another Prothioconazole wastewater, resulting in zero residue Prothioconazole production.
Picoxystrobin
Adama has also made significant progress in the treatment of Picoxystrobin. The production process originally produced 129 tons of waste to be incinerated each year. Through the efforts of a multidisciplinary team, the company has adopted a vacuum evaporation system to treat waste, reducing the amount of waste that needs to be incinerated by approximately 70% over the past three years.
In addition, Adama has developed a unique formulation technology called TOV (Technology, Simplified Operation and Producer Value). The company's fungicide products, Armero®, Almada® and Blindado® TOV, all use this technology to provide farmers with innovative and sustainable solutions based on different active ingredients.
