Nestle Considers Selling L'Oréal Stake

ECHEMI 2024-09-14

New Nestle boss Laurent Freixe is rumoured to be considering selling his 20% stake in L'Oréal to raise much-needed advertising and marketing investment in hopes of reversing a slide in market share.

The 20.1% stake is currently worth $47 billion, according to Reuters. With the food giant's share price relatively low, selling all or part of the stake could help fund marketing campaigns as well as a share buyback program.

Any size sale would likely have a negative impact on L'Oréal's share price, but Reuters revealed that this could be avoided with a targeted buyback, allowing the Bettencourt family to increase its stake in the French beauty giant.
