China's Total Import and Export Volume Exceeds $5.5 Trillion in First 11 Months, Trade Surplus $884.674 Billion
According to the latest import and export data released by the General Administration of Customs of China on December 7, the total import and export volume for China in the first 11 months of this year reached $55,967.43 billion, an increase of 3.6% compared to the same period last year. On the import side, November's import volume was $214.87 billion, down 3.9%, a decline of 1.6 percentage points compared to October. The trade surplus for November was $97.44 billion, an increase of $1.72 billion from October.
Regarding exports to major trading partners, China's export growth rate to the United States notably rebounded in the first 11 months, with a two-year average growth rate of 7.7% in November, contributing 1.1 percentage points to overall export growth and accounting for about 30% of the increase. In contrast, the two-year average export growth rate to the EU and Canada slowed, mainly due to economic downturns in some European countries.
Notably, China's exports to ASEAN showed strong performance, with a total trade volume of $885.254 billion from January to November, a year-on-year increase of 7.2%. The value of goods exported to ASEAN was $526.658 billion, up 11.2%; imports from ASEAN totaled $358.596 billion, a 1.8% increase; the trade surplus reached $168.062 billion.
In terms of product export structure, electromechanical products accounted for nearly 60% of total exports, with exports of automatic data processing equipment, integrated circuits, and automobiles all growing by over 10%. Notably, the export of integrated circuits showed significant growth, reaching 18.8%. Meanwhile, exports of labor-intensive products such as clothing and accessories slightly decreased, while exports of textiles and plastic products increased by 4.6% and 5.6%, respectively.
In terms of rare earth exports, there was a year-on-year decline of 7% in November, which has drawn particular attention. Rare earths are essential raw materials for modern industry and high-tech products, and adjustments in their exports may reflect China's response strategy to changes in the international situation. Strengthened export controls on rare earth resources demonstrate China's determination to safeguard its interests in critical resource areas.
China has maintained strong export resilience in international trade while showing the ability to respond to international challenges by adjusting export strategies and strengthening export controls on critical resources in the face of potential trade frictions.
