Sherwin-Williams Dominates Global Paint Market With $23.1 Billion Sales and 11.41 Percent Share
Sherwin-Williams has once again proven its dominance in the global paint industry, securing the top spot for the sixth consecutive year in the "2025 Global Top 10 Paint Manufacturers Ranking" released by Coatings World. With sales revenue of $23.1 billion and a global market share of 11.41 percent, the company remains the only paint manufacturer in the world with a market share exceeding 10 percent.
Founded in 1866, Sherwin-Williams has steadily grown over its 150-year history to become the largest paint manufacturer globally, operating in over 120 countries. Its product portfolio spans diverse sectors, including architectural coatings, industrial coatings, automotive paints, and marine coatings, supported by renowned brands such as Valspar, Sayerlack, and Inchem.
The company's 2024 financial report highlights its resilience amid global economic challenges. Sherwin-Williams achieved a 0.2 percent increase in net sales, reaching $23.1 billion. Its net profit rose by 12.25 percent to $2.68 billion, with an EBITDA of $4.49 billion—up 8.2 percent year-over-year. These results further solidify Sherwin-Williams’ market leadership, with the company accounting for 34.61 percent of the total net profit among the world’s top 10 paint manufacturers.
Sherwin-Williams also excels in profitability and efficiency. With a net profit margin of 11.61 percent and a per capita output value of $361,600, the firm demonstrates unparalleled operational strength. Its architectural coatings division led the industry with $12.5 billion in sales, while its industrial coatings segment generated $6.27 billion, ranking second globally.
This success stems from a focused strategy of excelling in the architectural coatings market, innovative business models, technical advancements, and significant investments in marketing and service. Sherwin-Williams has also executed a robust global acquisition strategy, including its 2017 acquisition of Valspar, which helped it surpass competitors like PPG.
Sherwin-Williams’ brand value has skyrocketed as well. It ranked 276th in the 2025 Global Brand Value 500 List, making it the only paint company on the list for the eighth consecutive year.
