Increased Supply Causes Oscillating Decline in Isooctanol Prices This Week

ECHEMI 2025-08-18

August 15th News

This week, the price of isooctanol in China fluctuated and declined.

According to the commodity market analysis system, as of August 15, the price of isooctanol was 7376.67 CNY/ton, a fluctuating decrease from the price of 7433.33 CNY/ton on August 8, with a price decrease of 0.76%. This week, the price of isooctanol stopped falling and rebounded. In August, the operating rates of isooctanol production facilities in Chinese enterprises recovered, with the equipment operation rate increasing to nearly 90%. Additionally, with the new capacity for isooctanol, the supply of isooctanol has increased. Downstream plasticizer companies are operating at high and stable levels, leading to an increase in the demand for isooctanol. With both supply and demand increasing, the price of isooctanol has fluctuated and decreased.

Downstream plasticizer DOP prices fluctuate and decline in China

According to the commodity market analysis system, as of August 15, the DOP price was 7759.16 CNY/ton, a decrease of 0.96% from the DOP price of 7834.16 CNY/ton on August 8. This week, most of the previously shut-down DOP production facilities in China have resumed normal operations, and the operating load of DOP enterprises remains stable at a high level. With high DOP production this week, there is an ample supply of plasticizers, and the demand for 2-ethylhexanol has increased, with the supporting factor of rising 2-ethylhexanol prices still present.

This week, the operating rate of DOP enterprises in China increased and stabilized at a high level of 67%, leading to an increase in plasticizer production. The demand for 2-ethylhexanol rose, and the price support for 2-ethylhexanol still exists.

Future Market Expectations

The data analyst for octanol products believes that, on the demand side, this week saw an increase in the operating rates of DOP equipment at plasticizer enterprises, leading to higher production of DOP plasticizers and a recovery in demand for iso-octanol. This suggests continued support for future price increases in iso-octanol. On the supply side, increased operating rates at iso-octanol plants, combined with new capacity coming online, have boosted the overall supply of iso-octanol. Overall, both supply and demand for iso-octanol are rising, resulting in inventory accumulation. Therefore, it is expected that iso-octanol prices will stop falling and rebound in the future.
