Weak Market Trend for Soda Ash in China
August 29 update
I. Price Trends
According to the commodity analysis system, the price of soda ash in China showed a downward trend this week. As of August 29, the average market price of soda ash was 1,210 CNY/ton, a decrease of 10 CNY/ton compared to the price of 1,220 CNY/ton on August 25, representing a price decrease of 0.82%.
II. Market Analysis
This week, the soda ash market in China showed a weak trend. During the week, the capacity utilization rate of soda ash decreased, leading to a reduction in the supply of soda ash, and manufacturers were actively shipping goods; on the demand side, the downstream performance was average, with the glass market showing slight fluctuations. Enterprises were slowly consuming their inventories, providing insufficient support for soda ash. Some purchases were mainly seeking lower prices, resulting in a poor market trading atmosphere, with soda ash prices being mainly weak. On August 29th, in the East China region, the price of light soda ash was reduced by 30 CNY/ton, with prices ranging from 1100 to 1400 CNY/ton; in the Central China region, the price of light soda ash remained at 1130-1300 CNY/ton.
According to the commodity analysis system, the downstream glass market has seen a slight increase. From August 25 to 29, the price of glass increased from 13.83 yuan per square meter to 13.88 yuan per square meter, a price increase of 0.36%. The glass production lines in China are operating steadily, with an increase in inventory for enterprises. Downstream consumption is moderate, and there is limited restocking in the market. As the traditional peak season approaches, some companies have slightly raised their quotes, but the overall glass price trend remains weak.
Outlook: Currently, the soda ash prices in China are stabilizing at a weak level. The market sentiment is mainly watchful, with downstream demand yet to recover. Soda ash enterprises continue to experience weak shipments, and the fundamental supply-demand contradiction persists. It is expected that the soda ash market in China will continue to operate weakly in the later period. Specific attention should be paid to the follow-up situation of the downstream sector.
