Asia leads global butadiene capacity growth

Recently, GlobalData stated that the increase in butadiene production capacity in Asia will reach 3.65 million tons per year from 2021 to 2025, accounting for 46% of the increase in global production capacity. The GlobalData report "Global Butadiene Industry Outlook to 2025-Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecast" shows that by 2025, global butadiene production capacity will continue to grow substantially, and it is expected to increase from 17.12 million tons per year in 2020 to 2025 Of 21.86 million tons per year, an increase of 28%.

 

GlobalData Oil and Gas Analyst Amareswari Kanaparthi said: “India is the leader in new capacity in the region, and it will add 1.68 million tons of butadiene capacity per year by 2025. Most of the new capacity will be realized in the future by Jamnagar. The butadiene project of the refinery will have an additional capacity of 700,000 tons per year by 2025."

 

According to GlobalData, China will be the second largest country with new capacity, and the newly added capacity will reach 1.24 million tons per year by 2025. Most of the new capacity will come from two planned projects-Tangshan Xuyang Petrochemical butadiene plant and Zhejiang Petrochemical No. 2 butadiene plant, each contributing 200,000 tons of production capacity per year. During the outlook period, Reliance Industries, Haldia Petrochemical and Lotte Chemical will become the world's top three companies with new capacity.
