Raw Material Prices Remain Elevated, October PC Prices Likely to Fluctuate at High Levels

November 2nd, according to the news,

Price Trend

According to SpotCom data, the Chinese PC market saw a consolidation after a price increase in October, with spot prices for various grades remaining at high levels. As of October 31, the benchmark price for mixed PC was around 15,000 CNY per ton, representing a 1.93% increase from the beginning of the month.

Reason Analysis

Supply side: Since October, the operating rates of China's PC polymerization enterprises have seen limited changes. The overall industry load rate is close to 83%. The production loss gap has narrowed compared to the previous period, with the current weekly output approaching 70,000 tons. The shipping speed of polymerization plants is moderate. Jiaxing Teijin entered a scheduled maintenance in the late part of the month, and the load of Rongsheng Petrochemical was also reduced, but the impact on overall supply is limited. Overall, the support from the supply side for PC is moderate.

Raw Material Perspective: As shown in the chart above, since October, China’s bisphenol A (BPA) market has experienced a modest rebound after an earlier decline. At the beginning of the month, BPA prices had already climbed to a near‑term peak. With supply increasing and demand remaining weak, spot prices came under downward pressure. However, amid ongoing Middle East tensions and incidents such as oil tanker fires in the Strait of Hormuz, upstream crude oil costs have risen, intensifying market concerns. Investors swiftly priced in supply‑disruption risks, driving a return of the geopolitical risk premium. Meanwhile, phenol and acetone prices fluctuated higher, providing robust overall support for polycarbonate (PC) production costs.

Demand Side: As we enter October, there are no clear signs of a significant pickup in purchasing activity among downstream PC manufacturers. End‑user companies continue to operate at low capacity utilization, and demand for products such as sheet‑metal enclosures remains subdued. Buyers’ reluctance toward higher‑priced supplies has been mounting, while sellers tend to hold firm on prices; profit‑driven traders are gradually offloading inventory, leading to increased cash‑in‑flow operations. Trading activity is skewed toward weak, essential‑demand segments, with a pronounced wait-and-see sentiment prevailing and buyers exercising caution in restocking. Overall, demand is providing limited support to the PC spot price.

Future Market Prediction

In October, China’s PC market remained volatile at elevated levels. Upstream bisphenol A prices fluctuated, while Chinese PC polymer producers maintained relatively stable operating rates. Trading activity was subdued, driven primarily by weak, rigid demand, with few large-scale procurement or inventory‑building moves. Currently, the PC supply‑demand balance leans toward a broad equilibrium. Analysts expect the market to continue trading in a consolidating range in the near term.
