The development of waterborne coatings from VOCs
The policy of "double control" and "power rationing" is not far from being implemented. Recently, 23 cities in 7 provinces have launched a level II emergency response to heavy pollution weather. Henan, Anhui, Hebei, Liaoning, Shandong, Shanxi and Sichuan and other regions have issued heavy pollution weather warnings, requiring enterprises to reduce emissions, off-peak production or stop production.
Under the orange alert, the emission reduction ratio of major pollutants such as sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and PM in each city should reach more than 20 percent, and the VOCs emission reduction ratio should reach more than 15 percent.
In recent years, the state vigorously governance VOCs, why?
First, let's look at the definition of industrial VOCs. The United States Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines VOCs as any carbon compounds participating in atmospheric photochemical reactions except CO, CO2 and H2CO3, metal carbides, metal carbonates and ammonium Carbonate. International standard ISO4618/1-1998 and German DIN55649-2000 standard of VOCs is defined as any spontaneous volatilization of organic liquids and (or) solids at room temperature and pressure. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), volatileOrganic Compounds VOCs are organic compounds that exist in AIR as steam at room temperature with boiling point between 50 ℃ and 260℃ and saturated vapor pressure over 133.32Pa at room temperature.
From the definition, industry is the key field of VOCs emissions, emissions account for more than 50% of the total emissions, and has the characteristics of high intensity, high concentration, and many types of pollutants. Including painting, printing, oil storage and transportation and petroleum refining industries. The control of VOCs can effectively decompose and degrade organic waste gas, so as to meet the emission standards, significantly reduce the CONTENT of VOCs in the air, reduce the occurrence of haze weather.
Due to different product processes and raw materials, VOCs emission characteristics in different industries are also different. China has carried out the comprehensive management of VOCs in petrochemical, organic chemical, surface coating, packaging, printing and other industries. Especially in the field of construction industry, actively encourage the promotion of water-based coatings.
In fact, in addition to low VOCs emissions, water-based coating production equipment is relatively simple, does not need high energy consumption, painting tools can be cleaned with water, reduce the consumption of cleaning solvent, in line with China's energy consumption double control policy. In addition, in the humid environment can be directly coated construction operation, can use electrophoresis coating, so that the coating film is uniform, smooth, good development, excellent product performance. In the long run, water-based coating products with low energy consumption and low pollution are the only way to develop coating products.
