Developing ecological agriculture on Chongming Island is his lifelong pursuit.

Shanghai has evolved from a small fishing village to a mega-city today, which is inseparable from hard-working strugglers. They come from all walks of life, ordinary but not mediocre, conscientiously writing history.

Since April 8, Peng Mei News has launched a series of articles entitled "New Age Strugglers" to pay tribute to the dreamers of our country.

Shen Mian showed the wild turtle in the rice-shrimp-soft-shelled turtle co-production chain to reporters. As a highly educated person, Pengmei journalist Chen Yixintu came to Chongming to take root in agriculture, successfully propagated the first artificial crab seedling in Chongming, attempted to "rice-shrimp-soft-shelled turtle" co-production industry chain, and developed a new method of ecological fish farming.

He is Shen Mian, the director of Shanghai Chunrun Aquaculture Professional Cooperative. In Chongming, where eco-agriculture has been developing for more than 20 years, Shen said that his greatest wish is to enable more farmers to participate in eco-agriculture. It is his lifelong pursuit to develop ecological agriculture on Chongming Ecological Island. Journalists from Pengyang News (www.thepaper.cn) added a message from Shen Mian. On the Wechat Walk List of Friends Circle, the 55-year-old has stabilized at more than 15,000 steps a day, surpassing many young people.

Coming to Chongming on Monday, Shen Mian sacrificed a lot of family time by returning to the urban and rural areas on Saturdays, which "filled the gap in his heart. For me, it's another way to get it." Shen Ming told Pengwei journalists that such "amphibious" life has lasted for more than 20 years.

In 1989, Shen Mian graduated from Shanghai Fisheries University and was assigned to the East China Sea Branch of Shanghai Oceanic Bureau for marine biology research. "At that time, the natural crab seedlings could not breed, all depended on fishing, and the price was expensive. Chongming found us with such demand." Shen said that by coincidence, he first came to Chongming Island in 1995. Wu Weidong, deputy mayor of Zhexin Town, Chongming District, said that in an era when people are pursuing life-long entry into the city, it takes some courage to take the initiative to go to the countryside to raise fish and crabs. Shen Ji is a highly educated comrade. It is very difficult for him to take root in agriculture for many years.

Shen Mian worked in Chongming Tuanjiesha and Ertongsha aquaculture bases successively. At that time, the living conditions there were very poor. In the mid and late 1990s, there was no running water, no cable TV, no air conditioning and bathroom, and the door was unbearably hot in dog days. It was in this environment that Shen Mian observed the embryos of river crabs under the microscope one after another. Finally, the first artificial breeding of crab seedlings in Chongming Island was successful. The tremendous success has brought considerable economic benefits, and at the same time, has brought about a turning point in Shen Mian's life. "Stable career makes me want to find a breakthrough, but also hope that what I have learned can really serve the people." Shen Pei said that at the end of 1997, he decided to leave the Bureau of Oceanography, take root in Chongming Island and devote himself to the cause of ecological aquaculture.

Company closed down, let him rethink the direction of life

Shen Mian resigned from the Oceanic Bureau and entered Shanghai Yingsheng Industrial Co., Ltd. When the cause is in full swing, the company's capital chain is broken by the bad behavior of its shareholders, and eventually closed down. Shen Mi has fallen into the trough of life, and the sudden blow has forced him to rethink the direction of life.

In 2004, Shen Mian transferred 50 mu of land to Chongming Naval Farm and established a base for second entrepreneurship. Here, he began to try the combination of farming and breeding model. "Agricultural products can only serve human health if they return to their true nature." He started the real "active ecology" road. The symbiosis of crayfish and rice was initially experimented with great success. Shen Mian transferred more than 200 mu of land in Xianghe Village, Lixin Town, and further tried the co-production chain of "rice-shrimp-turtle". In the ecological ring ditch of paddy field, micro-ecological agents were used to return straw to the field and cultivate biological bait for the growth of lobster larvae, while soft-shelled turtles could feed on lobster larvae. Under this symbiotic model, the economic value of output can be superimposed on one mu of land. At present, the output value per mu has reached 18,000-20,000 yuan. With the improvement of people's living standards and the increase of food safety problems, people's demand for truly ecological and healthy agricultural products is increasing. In 2008, in order to expand production needs, Shen Mian established Chun Run Cooperative, which cooperates with six family farms. Now the number of partners has increased to 11.

In 2018, Shen Mian led farmers to conduct ecological recycling fish culture on the forest runway in Yucai Village, Lixin Town. He put "water culture" in the first place to realize ecological recycling. While improving the quality of aquatic products, he realized ecological restoration of water body, and let the quality of discharged water be better than that of incoming water.

"Unlike fish pond farming, which pursues yield blindly, this is the real"ecological fish farming". Shen Gu believes that the real ecology must be biodiversity, not pure green coverage. Let Chongming's woodland function as a wetland. There will be all kinds of small fish and shrimps in the ditch wetland in the woodland, as well as water and grass, and birds will come unasked.
