The Agricultural and Rural Economy was running smoothly in May

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently released May agricultural and rural economic data. The data show that the production of important agricultural products is stable, the quality of summer grain production is rising, the situation of African swine plague is controlled effectively, the supply of poultry and other substitutes is increased, the prices of bulk agricultural products are generally stable, the potential of rural consumption is continuously released, and the operation of agricultural and rural economy is generally stable. Summer grain production increased in quantity and quality, and crop growth in the field was better than that in the previous year. As of June 18, the harvest of summer grain has exceeded 90% and the machine yield has exceeded 96%. It is estimated that the yield per mu will increase by 10 kg compared with the previous year, and the harvest will be good. The quality of wheat is obviously better than that of last year. The proportion of high-quality strong gluten and weak gluten wheat is 33%, which is 3 percentage points higher than that of last year. Most of the southern early rice was in heading to grain filling stage, and its growth was generally normal.
The situation of African swine plague has been effectively controlled, and the supply of poultry and other substitutes has increased. As of June 16th, there were 137 cases of African swine plague, of which 38 occurred since this year, with a significant decrease in the number of months. At present, 26 provinces (districts) have lifted the blockade of the epidemic areas, and the order of pig transfer has been gradually restored. Production of pork substitutes such as poultry has accelerated, with chicken production increasing by 16.1% in the first May compared with the same period last year. Actions to revitalize the dairy industry have been further promoted, with milk production increasing by 5.3% in the first May, and aquatic products are in sufficient supply. The total output of aquatic products in the first May was 21.45 million tons, basically the same as that in the previous year.
The prices of bulk agricultural products are generally stable, and the prices of fruits, pork and eggs have increased significantly over the same period of last year. Food prices remained stable, the wholesale price of common wheat increased by 1.1% annually, 0.6% year-on-year; the wholesale price of rice remained flat and fell slightly year-on-year; the supply of grain sources in the corn market was tight, and the price rose by 3.2% annually, up by 6.7% year-on-year. With the increase of the supply of stored maize, the expectation of price increase weakened.
The potential of rural consumption has been continuously released, and the decline of fixed assets investment in primary industry has expanded. Rural consumption continued to be active. From January to May, the retail sales of rural consumer goods in China totaled 2336.7 billion yuan, an increase of 8.9% over the same period last year, which was higher than that of urban consumer goods by 0.9 percentage points. Rural e-commerce maintained a relatively rapid growth momentum, according to Taobao big data platform, food sales in May increased by 24% year-on-year. The structure of main import sources of agricultural products changed significantly. Before May, China's agricultural imports from Brazil, ASEAN, EU, Australia and Canada maintained rapid growth, while imports from the United States continued to decline rapidly. Among them, the amount of agricultural products imported from Brazil rose to 76.19 billion yuan from 63.12 billion yuan in the same period last year, an increase of 20.7%. The amount of agricultural products imported from the United States dropped to 32.73 billion yuan from 73.22 billion yuan in the same period last year, a decrease of 55.3%.
