Fresh Food e-Commerce Data Analysis, The Results Are Still Losing Money
For the many fresh food platforms that have emerged on the market, some consumers said that they downloaded so many apps at the time, mainly because of the discounts for new members, but now there are no more coupons than before. After a heavily subsidised "money burning" phase, online fresh food now needs to rely more on product richness, delivery service, after-sales response time and product quality to retain consumers. Many consumers are choosing to use multiple platforms together and buy different fresh food products on different platforms.
Consumer Miss Chen said, for example, live shrimp, Meituan half a catty from the sale, in the box horse App, Kiwai shrimp, Rochester shrimp, river shrimp, etc. are sold from a catty, "the former has half a catty of choice more friendly. Fruits, dairy products selection, box horse relative to Meituan, Dingdong buy food more."

According to the big data from the "Electricity Business", the fresh food e-commerce transaction scale reached 465.81 billion yuan in 2021, up 27.92% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the penetration rate of the fresh food e-commerce industry reached 7.91% in 2021. Despite the increase in transaction size, the fresh food e-commerce circuit has been plagued by product quality, quality control and profitability in recent times.
In recent years, the online fresh food circuit has seen the emergence of many competitors, and there is a lot of pressure on the survival of each platform. Most fresh food e-commerce companies are still in the red. According to the financial report, in the fourth quarter of last year, Dingdong bought food with a net loss of 1.096 billion yuan, and a net loss of 1.246 billion yuan for the same period in 2020. 2021 full-year net loss of 6.43 billion yuan, and a net loss of 3.18 billion yuan for the same period in 2020.
According to the third quarter 2021 financial results of Daily Youxiang, the net loss attributable to common shareholders was RMB 974 million, a 58.12% expansion of the loss for the same period in 2020. The data shows that from 2019 to the third quarter of 2021, the cumulative loss of Daily Youxian was nearly RMB 7.6 billion.
Mo Daicheng, director and senior analyst of the e-commerce research centre of the Net Economic Society, said that the fresh food e-commerce "card war" in 2022 has further escalated. In addition to the fresh e-commerce pattern is not yet completely stable, the future fresh market will present a variety of market, supermarket and community freshness and other business coexistence.
