Shandong Province Integrates Coastal Port Resources to Establish Port Group

Shandong Port Group Co., Ltd. was founded in Qingdao on June 6, marking a new chapter in the reform and development of Shandong coastal port integration, involving the integration of coastal port resources in seven cities of Shandong Province. It is reported that Shandong is a major coastal port province with seven coastal ports, Qingdao, Yantai, Rizhao, Weihai, Weifang, Dongying and Binzhou. In 2018, Shandong's coastal ports completed 1.61 billion tons of cargo throughput, ranking second in China. Metal ore, liquid bulk cargo and foreign trade throughput ranked first in China, and bulk cargo throughput ranked second in China. Box throughput ranks third in China. Among them, Qingdao Port throughput exceeds 500 million tons, Rizhao Port and Yantai Port throughput exceeds 400 million tons, ranking among the top 10 ports in China. It is known that compared with world-class ports, the development of Shandong coastal ports has the problems of decentralized and disordered development, inefficient and repetitive construction, homogenization and self-competition. After investigation and demonstration, Shandong has made the decision to promote the integration reform of the coastal ports in the whole province and to set up the Shandong Port Group.
Huo Gao, Secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of Shandong Port Group, said that Shandong Port Group would unify and optimize the allocation of coastline resources, clarify the development orientation of port specialization, differentiation and scale in Shandong Province, eliminate duplication of construction and homogeneous competition, and thoroughly solve the problem of "port of princes" fighting separately. As an important part of Shandong Port Group, Qingdao Port's cargo throughput, container throughput, international routes, inland liner and other key factors play an important role. For the future development of the newly established Shandong Port Group, the person in charge of Qingdao Port said that the port integration is not a simple physical process, but a chemical reaction. Through the integration, new format, space and energy can be produced, and the effect of "1+1+1+1>4" can be achieved. Qingdao Port will play a good role in radiation driving and grasp the coordination of Shandong Port. With the opportunity of developing the Shanghai Cooperation Economic and Trade Demonstration Zone, we will work with other sister ports to speed up the construction of world-class marine ports. It is reported that the newly formed Shandong Port Group is the main body of investment, financing and market operation for coordinating the construction of major transport infrastructure such as ports in Shandong Province and promoting the integrated development of ports. It will assume the main functions of port planning, investment, construction, operation and safety management according to the port function orientation and development strategy of Shandong Province. Responsibilities: Implementing comprehensive port development, scientifically guiding the expansion of port functions, and promoting the integration and development of port, industry and city.
