Fiscal Year 2021 Report Cards of 50 Global Chemical Companies Released
In 2021, the supply and demand of global chemical products will be out of balance, the prices of chemical products will generally rise, the production and sales of major chemical giants will increase significantly, the scale effect will appear, and the profitability will be greatly improved.
Europe
The BASF Group achieved sales of 78.6 billion euros in fiscal 2021, an increase of 33 percent over the previous year. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) before special items amounted to 7.8 billion euros, more than double compared to 2020. Compared to 2019, this is a 67% increase.
Evonik's sales in 2021 will increase by 23% compared to 2020 to 15 billion euros; adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) will increase by 25% compared to 2020 to 2.38 billion euros.
LyondellBasell's operating income in 2021 will be US$46.173 billion, a year-on-year increase of 66.37%; net income will reach US$5.617 billion, a year-on-year increase of 295.07%.
Solvay's 2021 net sales will increase by 17% to 10.1 billion euros. Basic earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased by 27% year-on-year to 2.356 billion euros. Basic net profit was 1 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 68.3%.
The WACKER Group achieved sales of 6.21 billion euros in 2021 (2020: 4.69 billion euros), a year-on-year increase of 32 percent. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) totaled EUR 1.13 billion (2020: EUR 263 million), with a profit of EUR 828 million for the full year.
Ineos Group Holdings’ group revenue in 2021 is 18.827 billion euros (about 19.8 billion U.S. dollars), and 11.304 billion euros in 2020. Operating profit for the full year was 2.864 billion euros, compared to 660 million euros in the previous year. Profit for the year was 2.092 billion euros, compared to 576 million euros in the previous year.
Arkema Group's sales in 2021 will be 9.5 billion euros, an increase of 25.9% compared to 2020. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) reached a record high of 1.727 billion euros, an increase of 46.1% over 2020, and an EBITDA margin of 18.1%. Adjusted net income was 2.3 times higher at 896 million euros.
Linde's 2021 sales were $30.8 billion (2020: $27.2 billion), a 13 percent increase over 2020. Operating profit was $7.2 billion, up 24% from a year earlier.
The Bayer Group's 2021 sales will rise by 8.9% to 44.081 billion euros, with a net income of 1 billion euros. Crop Science sales rose by 11.1% to EUR 20,207 million, and EBITDA before special items rose by 3.6% to EUR 4,698 million.
Covestro's sales in 2021 will be approximately 15.9 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 48.5%; earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) will reach 3.1 billion euros, an increase of more than 100%.
DSM's 2021 sales will increase by 14% to 9.2 billion euros; adjusted net profit will increase by 21% to 858 million euros.
Air Liquide's sales in 2021 reached 23.335 billion euros, an increase of 8.2% year-on-year; net profit was 2.5 billion euros (2020: 2.435 billion euros), an increase of 5.6% compared to 2020, and an increase of 8.9% after deducting currency effects.
Henkel Group sales of EUR 20.066 billion in fiscal 2021, organic sales growth of 7.8%; adjusted operating profit (adjusted EBIT margin) in fiscal 2021 compared to EUR 2.579 billion in fiscal 2020 An increase of 4.2% to 2.686 billion euros.
In 2021, LANXESS’s sales were 7.557 billion euros, an increase of 23.8% from the previous year’s 6.104 billion euros. EBITDA excluding special items increased by 17.2% to EUR 1,010 million, compared with EUR 862 million in the same period last year.
AkzoNobel's 2021 revenue will increase by 12% to 9.587 billion euros; operating profit will increase by 16% to 1.118 billion euros.
Syngenta's 2021 operating income will increase by 23% ($5.2 billion) year-on-year to $28.2 billion. Full-year EBITDA was $4.6 billion, up 14% year over year.
Yara International's 2021 revenue is $16.6 billion and EBITDA is $2.8 billion.
North America
Dow's 2021 sales are $55 billion, operating EBIT is $9.5 billion, profit margins in all operating segments have increased, operating cash flow will reach $7.1 billion, and annual return on capital will exceed 22%.
DuPont will achieve net sales of approximately $16.7 billion in 2021, up 16% from the previous year, operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of $4.2 billion, up 21% year-on-year, and full-year adjusted EPS of $4.30.
Eastman's 2021 growth across all businesses will drive sales up 24% to $10.476 billion; EBIT will be $1.281 billion.
Celanese's 2021 net sales of $8.5 billion are up 51% year over year, driven by price and volume increases of 39% and 10% year over year. Adjusted EBIT of $2.5 billion was a record high.
Air Products' fiscal 2021 sales were $10.3 billion, up 17 percent from the previous year. Net profit was US$2.099 billion, compared with US$1.887 billion in the previous year.
Ecolab's 2021 operating income will be US$12.733 billion, up 8% year-on-year; net profit attributable to common shareholders of the parent company will be US$1.130 billion, up 193.76% year-on-year.
International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) 2021 net sales of $11.66 billion, up 129% from a year earlier; EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) of $2.43 billion, up from $1.06 billion in 2020 The dollar increased by $1.37 billion.
In 2021, Huntsman will achieve revenue of $8.453 billion, net profit of $1.104 billion, adjusted net profit of $784 million, and adjusted EBITDA of $1.343 billion.
Celanese's 2021 net sales will be $8.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 51%; consolidated operating profit of $1.9 billion and adjusted EBIT of $2.5 billion are both record highs.
Westlake Chemical's sales in 2021 will be US$11.8 billion, a 57% increase over 2020; EBITDA will be US$3.7 billion, an increase of 196% over the three-year period.
Corteva's fiscal 2021 net sales were $15.65 billion, a 10% increase year-on-year.
Sherwin-Williams achieved net sales of $19.9446 billion in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 8.6%; EBITDA was $3.1559 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 8.29%.
In 2021, the net sales of PPG Industries' continuing operations will be approximately US$16.8 billion (approximately RMB 106.6 billion), an increase of approximately 21% over the previous year; the adjusted net profit will be US$1.619 billion (approximately RMB 10.3 billion), A year-on-year increase of 12%.
Nutrien's 2021 sales revenue will be $27.7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 33%; adjusted EBITDA will be $7.126 billion, a year-on-year increase of 94%.
Legg Mason's net sales in 2021 were $12.357 billion, compared to $8.682 billion in 2020. Net profit for the year was US$1.631 billion, compared with US$666 million in the previous year.
Asia
Sinochem's operating income in 2021 is 1,108.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 30%; total profit is 35 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 33%; net profit is 20.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16%.
Wanhua Chemical's operating income in 2021 was about 145.538 billion yuan, an increase of 98.19% over the previous year; the net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was about 24.649 billion yuan, an increase of 145.47% over the previous year. The net profit has maintained more than 10 billion yuan for five consecutive years.
Yuntianhua's operating income in 2021 will be 63.249 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 21.37%; the net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies is 3.642 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1238.77%
Dongfang Shenghong's operating income in 2021 is 51.722 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 53.48%; the net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies is 4.544 billion yuan, an increase of 492.66% compared to the same period last year.
Tongkun's operating income in 2021 will be 60.08 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 31.09%; net profit will be 7.325 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 158.17%
The operating income of Zhongtai Chemical in 2021 is 62.463 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 25.83%; the net profit is 2.703 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1769.96%.
In 2021, Rongsheng Petrochemical will achieve an operating income of 181.535 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 69.24%; the net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company is 12.843 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 75.72%.
Hengli Petrochemical's revenue and profit scale in 2021 will both reach record highs, with an operating income of 197.97 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 29.92%; a net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company of 15.531 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.37%.
In 2021, Hengyi will achieve an operating income of 128.98 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 49.23%, a net profit attributable to the parent company of 3.408 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.94%, and the company's total assets of 105.549 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.88%.
PTTGC's total sales revenue in 2021 is 465.128 billion baht (about 89.8 billion yuan), an increase of 43% over 2021. The operating profit was 55.186 billion baht (10.7 billion yuan), an increase of 93% over the previous year; the annual net profit was 44.982 billion baht (9.7 billion yuan), the highest performance of the company, with a year-on-year increase of more than 200%.
South Korea's LG Chem's 2021 performance hit a record high, with sales of 42.6547 trillion won (about 35.5 billion U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of 41.9%; operating profit of 5.255 trillion won (about 4.4 billion U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of 178.4%.
Lotte Chemical's sales in 2021 will be 17,805.2 billion won (about 14.1 billion U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of 45.7%. Operating profit was KRW 1,535.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 330.3%.
In 2021, Nippon Paint achieved sales revenue of 998.276 billion yen (about 9.0424 billion US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 29.2%. The net profit attributable to the parent company was 67.569 billion yen (about 612.0 million US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 53.8%.
Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings' results for the first nine months of the fiscal year from April to December 2021. Sales revenue for the current period was 2,900.3 billion yen (about 22.3 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 2,355.4 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit for the period was 218.2 billion yen, compared with 700 million yen in the same period last year. Net profit for the period was 122.1 billion yen, compared with a net loss of 47.8 billion yen in the same period last year.
Sumitomo Chemical's results for the first nine months of the fiscal year from April to December 2021. The current sales revenue was 2,037.877 billion yen (about 15.7 billion US dollars), compared with 1,642.61 billion yen in the same period last year. The current operating profit was 197.923 billion yen, compared with 115.772 billion yen in the same period last year. Net profit for the period was 133.663 billion yen, compared to 20.228 billion yen in the same period last year.
Asahi Kasei's results for the first nine months of the fiscal year from April to December 2021. The current sales revenue was 1,824.751 billion yen (about 14.1 billion US dollars), compared with 1,536.659 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit for the period was 174.056 billion yen, compared with 129.515 billion yen in the same period last year. Net profit for the period was 140.662 billion yen, compared to 79.979 billion yen in the same period last year.
Shin-Etsu Chemical Industry's results for the first nine months of the fiscal year from April to December 2021. Net sales for the period were 1,483.703 billion yen (about 11.4 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 1,090.407 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit for the period was 480.112 billion yen, compared with 285.021 billion yen in the same period last year. Net profit for the period was 353.135 billion yen, compared to 213.321 billion yen in the same period last year.
Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) has revenue of SAR 174.9 billion in 2021 and SAR 116.9 billion in 2020. Net profit attributable to shareholders for the year was 23.033 billion Saudi riyals, compared to 66.83 million riyals in the previous year.
