DuPont results better than expected
Recently, DuPont's first-quarter financial report showed that in the first quarter, DuPont achieved a net profit of 232 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 40%, mainly due to the impact of restructuring and asset impairment expenses. The company reported first-quarter earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of $818 million, up 2% year-on-year as higher product prices offset the impact of inflation in raw materials, logistics and energy costs. Net sales in the first quarter were $3.3 billion, up 9% year over year. The company reported adjusted earnings of 82 cents per share in the first quarter, up 19% year over year.
DuPont's operating EBITDA margin fell 150 basis points in the first quarter due to higher costs. The company's sales in the first quarter rose 3% year over year due to continued strong demand from the electronics, industrial technology, water and construction end markets. Demand was partially offset by continued supply chain constraints, primarily in the automotive segment.
Ed Brin, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DuPont, said: "In the face of unprecedented global supply chain challenges and cost inflation, we reported first-quarter financial results that far exceeded expectations. This underscores our global market leadership. status and reflects the flexibility of our team while working closely with our suppliers and customers to overcome challenges.”
