Iron poisoning
Iron poisoning is not uncommon, and is mostly caused by ingesting excessive amounts of ferrous sulfate. Infants can be severely poisoned or even die from taking 40mg to 1.5g of ferrous sulfate orally; older children can die from poisoning from ingesting 10 to 15 sugar-coated ferrous pills (0.3g each). Iron poisoning can also be caused by eating acidic fruits cooked in an iron pot. Excessive injection of iron preparations can cause severe poisoning.
