Retropharyngeal abscess
Retropharyngeal abscess occurs in the retropharyngeal space and is mostly caused by infection and suppuration of the retropharyngeal lymph nodes. It can be divided into acute and chronic types. Acute ones are more common in children. Chronic ones are rare and are mostly caused by tuberculosis of the cervical spine, also known as cold abscesses.
