Secnidazole

This product is a 5-nitroimidazole antiprotozoan and anaerobic drug, which acts on the growth period of protozoa or anaerobic bacteria, destroys DNA chains or inhibits DNA synthesis, leading to the death of protozoa and anaerobic bacteria. This product has a strong killing effect on urogenital Trichomonas, intestinal and tissue amoeba and Giardia.

Chemical name: α,2-dimethyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazole-1-ethanol.

Anti-amoebic and anti-trichomonal drugs. Used to treat various acute and chronic hepatoenteric amoebiasis and trichomoniasis of the urethra, female vagina, male prostate, etc. Also used to treat giardiasis and anaerobic infections of various parts of the human body.

Adult patients with intestinal amebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginitis and anaerobic infections should take 2.0 grams (4 tablets) of this product orally, and children should take 30 mg/kg of this product orally, once a day; patients with hepatic amebiasis should take 1.5 grams (3 tablets) of this product orally, and children should take 30 mg/kg of this product orally, once a day, for 5 consecutive days.

There may be gastrointestinal reactions such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea in a few cases. There is often a pungent metallic taste in the mouth. Occasionally, there are headaches, insomnia, rashes, leukopenia, and increased blood urine nitrogen, which recover quickly after stopping the drug.

It is contraindicated for patients with central nervous system diseases, pregnant women and breastfeeding women. It should be used with caution in patients with liver and kidney dysfunction.

Precautions during pregnancy and lactation: Pregnant and breastfeeding women are prohibited from using.

When used in combination with anticoagulants such as warfarin, the efficacy of the anticoagulants can be enhanced. Careful observation of the prothrombin time should be made and the dosage adjusted.
