Function and Efficacy

This product is the levorotatory form of ofloxacin, and its antibacterial activity is about twice that of ofloxacin. Its main mechanism of action is to inhibit the activity of bacterial DNA gyrase (bacterial topoisomerase II) and hinder bacterial replication to achieve antibacterial effect. This product has the characteristics of a broad antibacterial spectrum and strong antibacterial effect. It has strong antibacterial activity against most Enterobacteriaceae, such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Serratia, Proteus, Shigella, Salmonella, Citrobacter, Acinetobacter, as well as Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus influenzae, and gonorrhea. It also has good antibacterial effects on some methicillin-sensitive Staphylococci, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, hemolytic Streptococci, and Legionella, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, etc. However, it has poor effects on anaerobic bacteria and enterococci.

Appearance

This product is an off-white or light yellow tablet or film-coated tablet, which appears white or light yellow after removing the film coating.

Indication

Applicable to infections caused by sensitive bacteria: 1. Urinary and reproductive system infections, including simple and complicated urinary tract infections, bacterial prostatitis, and urethritis caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae. 2. Respiratory tract infections, including acute bronchial infections and lung infections caused by sensitive Gram-negative bacilli. 3. Gastrointestinal infections caused by Shigella, Salmonella, enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, Aeromonas aquaticus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, etc. 4. Typhoid fever. 5. Bone and joint infections. 6. Skin and soft tissue infections. 7. Systemic infections such as sepsis.

Usage and Dosage

Adults take 0.2-0.3g per day, divided into 2-3 times orally, 1 tablet each time. For patients with more serious conditions, the maximum daily dose can be increased to 0.6g, divided into 3 times orally. In addition, the dose can be increased or decreased appropriately according to the type of infection and symptoms.

Adverse Reactions

Adverse reactions may occur during the use of levofloxacin hydrochloride: Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, indigestion, etc. may occur sometimes; Allergies: Occasionally there may be edema, urticaria, fever, photosensitivity, and sometimes there may be rash, itching, erythema, etc.; Nervous system: Occasionally there may be tremor, numbness, visual abnormalities, tinnitus, hallucinations, drowsiness, and sometimes there may be insomnia, dizziness, headache, etc.; Kidney: Occasionally there may be an increase in blood urea nitrogen; Liver: Transient liver function abnormalities may occur, such as increased serum transaminase and increased serum total bilirubin; Blood: Anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and increased eosinophils may occur sometimes; The incidence of the above adverse reactions is between 0.1 and 5%, which are generally tolerated and disappear quickly after the end of the treatment.

Precautions

Drug Interactions

When this product is used simultaneously with antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, sucralfate, metal cations (such as iron), and zinc-containing multivitamin preparations, it will interfere with the absorption of this product by the gastrointestinal tract, causing the concentration of this drug in various systems to be significantly reduced. Therefore, the time of taking the above-mentioned drugs should be at least 2 hours before or after using this product. Avoid using it simultaneously with theophylline. If it is necessary to use it simultaneously, the blood concentration of theophylline should be monitored and the dosage should be adjusted accordingly. When used simultaneously with warfarin or its derivatives, the prothrombin time or other coagulation tests should be monitored. When used simultaneously with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, there is a possibility of inducing convulsions. When used simultaneously with oral hypoglycemic drugs, it may cause blood sugar disorders, including hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. Therefore, blood sugar concentrations should be monitored during medication. Once hypoglycemia occurs, this product should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment should be given.
