Atenolol Tablets
Function and Efficacy
It is a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker with no membrane stabilizing effect and endogenous sympathomimetic activity. However, it does not inhibit the bronchodilator effect of isoproterenol. Its mechanism of lowering blood pressure and reducing myocardial oxygen consumption is the same as that of propranolol. Large-scale clinical trials have confirmed that atenolol can reduce the mortality rate of acute myocardial infarction within 0 to 7 days. The therapeutic dose has no significant inhibition on myocardial contractility.

Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: Children should start with a small dose of 0.25-0.5 mg/kg, twice a day. Pay attention to monitoring heart rate and blood pressure. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: This product can pass the placental barrier and appear in the umbilical cord blood. There is a lack of research on the use of this drug in the first 3 months, and the possibility of fetal damage cannot be ruled out. Long-term use of this drug by pregnant women is related to intrauterine growth retardation of the fetus. This drug has a significant aggregation effect in breast milk, and lactating women should be cautious when taking it. Precautions for the elderly: The required dose can be reduced, especially for patients with renal decline.
Drug Interactions
When used in combination with other antihypertensive drugs and diuretics, their antihypertensive effect can be enhanced. Be especially cautious when using Class I antiarrhythmic drugs, verapamil, and anesthetics. Beta-blockers can aggravate the rebound of hypertension caused by discontinuation of clonidine. If the two drugs are used in combination, this drug should be discontinued a few days before discontinuation of clonidine. If this drug is used to replace clonidine, the course of beta-blocker treatment should be started a few days after stopping taking clonidine.
