AKD wax for akd emulsion used as paper internal sizing agent
AKD wax, alkyl ketene dimer wax, can be divided into 3 models: AKD 1840, AKD 1865 and AKD 1895, is mainly used for internal sizing of various paper, such as copper plate base paper, copy paper, archival paper, high quality writing paper and corrugated paper.
AKD wax is usually used together with AKD emulsifier, AKD dispersant, AKD stabilizer to make AKD emulsion.

Physicochemical functions:
Due to the solvent-free production method, AKD raw powder does not contain toxic substances, and is especially suitable for paper grades with high hygiene requirements, such as liquid food packaging paper. AKD raw powder is a relatively easy to melt solid, which can be melted into a liquid at a slightly higher temperature of 47°C. Generally, cationic starch or cationic polymer is used as an emulsifier, and the dispersion and homogenization function of the high-pressure homogenizer is used to disperse it into a suspension with fine particles, uniform charge, and stable dispersion.
Precautions for use:
In the process of melting, the temperature should be strictly controlled, too high temperature will affect its sizing function and the stability of the emulsion. At the same time, the pressure of the homogenizer should be stabilized within the range required by the process, and the homogenization process directly affects the quality of the emulsion.

Alkyl ketene dimer (AKD WAX) is the reactive synthetic sizing agent that is used in alkaline or neutral papermaking conditions to provide certain level of hydrophobicity to the paper and board. The sizing mechanism of AKD involves its reaction with the hydroxyl groups on cellulose.
