1.  Description

Squalane is an important component contained in human sebum. The sebum secreted by the sebaceous glands of human skin comprises approximately 10% squalene and 2.4% squalane. The human body can convert squalene into squalane. Squalene can supply oxygen and nutrients to cells, promote cellular metabolism, form a sebaceous film on the outer layer of the skin to prevent moisture loss, and shield against bacteria, dust, and ultraviolet radiation. The cosmetic benefits of squalene and squalane are nearly identical; however, due to its unstable molecular structure, squalene is prone to oxidation and is thus typically encapsulated for oral ingestion.
