Uses

Photometric determination of iron Fe(II) and total iron. The color of Fe2+ complex is reddish purple at pH 3.4-5.8 (1:2, logK=20.4), and TPTZ can be used as a metal indicator for Fe. However, TPTZ and Co, Cu, Ni and other metal ions will also develop color, so it can not be used as a selective colorimetric reagent for Fe. If there are a large amount of Co, Cu, Ni ions, it will hinder the detection. In addition to the Fe ions in serum and boiler water, it has also been reported that Fe can be quantified in samples such as glass, coal, high-purity metals, wine, and vitamin E.
