Vietnam's agricultural exports will hit a record $55bn this year, according to Phung Duc Tien, deputy minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. As the dollar appreciates, Vietnamese agricultural products are favored because of lower prices. At the same time, there is usually a high demand for food in Western countries from September to December each year.

Vietnamese durian has just begun to officially export to China, and it has already shown great market potential. About 10,000 tons of Vietnamese durian have been exported to China through official channels in just over a month, following the first official export of Vietnamese durian to China on September 17. Vietnamese exporter Van Xuan Phat import-Export Co. Said the company exports 1,000 tons of durian to China every month. Another company, Dung Thai Son import-Export Trade JSC, said it had signed an export contract for 500,000 tonnes of durian, with plans to plant 3,000-5,000 hectares of durian exclusively for the Chinese market.

Vietnam's agricultural exports reached $40.8 billion in the year to September, up 15.2 percent year on year, according to a report released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). Export revenue of seven agricultural products exceeded $2 billion, and most of the major export items grew by double digits.
