An outbreak of bovine epidemic haemorrhagic disease occurred in Italy

According to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), on November 17, 2022, the Italian Ministry of Health reported to WOAH that there was an outbreak of bovine epidemic haemorrhagic disease in Italy.


The outbreak occurred in the province of Trapani in the region of Sicily and was confirmed on 14 November 2022. The source of the outbreak is mediator transmission. Clinical and laboratory tests found that 32 cattle were suspected to be infected, of which 3 became ill and 1 died.


The outbreak is still ongoing, and the Italian Ministry of Health will submit follow-up reports on a weekly basis.
