Peru has experienced its first outbreak of highly pathogenic influenza A
According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), on November 18, 2022, Peru's National Agricultural Health Agency reported to WOAH that a highly pathogenic influenza A outbreak had occurred in Peru.
The outbreak occurred in Peru's exclusive economic zone and was confirmed on 14 November 2022. The source of the outbreak is exposure to wild species. Laboratory tests found that 200 Peruvian pelicans became ill and died, killing and disposing of 1.
The outbreak is still ongoing, and the Peruvian National Agricultural Health Service will submit weekly follow-up reports.
