The first outbreak of bovine epidemic haemorrhagic disease occurred in Spain

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), on November 23, 2022, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food reported to WOAH that there was an outbreak of bovine epidemic haemorrhagic disease in Spain.


The outbreak occurred in the provinces of Seville and Cádiz in the autonomous region of Andalusia and was confirmed on 18 November 2022. The source of the outbreak is mediator transmission. Laboratory tests found that 1,237 cattle were suspected to be infected, 12 of whom became sick.


The outbreak is still ongoing, and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will submit a follow-up report on a weekly basis.
