An outbreak of oriental equine encephalomyelitis virus has occurred in Mexico
According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), on November 23, 2022, the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture reported to WOAH that an outbreak of oriental equine encephalomyelitis virus occurred in Mexico.
The outbreak occurred in Aldama City, Tamaulipas State, and was confirmed on 18 November 2022. The source of the outbreak is mediator transmission. Clinical and laboratory tests found that 9 equines were suspected to be infected, 3 of which became ill and died.
The outbreak is still ongoing, and the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture will submit a follow-up report on a weekly basis.
