An outbreak of highly pathogenic influenza A H5N1 has occurred in Romania

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), on November 17, 2022, the Romanian National Health Veterinary and Food Safety Authority reported to WOAH that an outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic influenza A occurred in Romania.


The outbreak occurred in Nyamc County and was confirmed on 15 November 2022. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Laboratory tests found that 6 warty swans became ill and died.


The outbreak is still ongoing, and the Romanian National Health, Veterinary and Food Safety Authority will submit a follow-up report on a weekly basis.
