India became a net exporter of chemicals, with an export share of 14.4%
Although the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic has caused a global economic slowdown, relevant data show that India has become a net exporter of chemicals and related products from 2019 to 2020.
In 2019-2020, India’s domestic exports of chemical products, including pharmaceutical preparations, APIs and pharmaceutical intermediates, organic chemicals, agrochemicals and fertilizers, increased by 3% year-on-year to reach US$45 billion, while imports fell by 7.3 year-on-year. %, to $4.43 billion. The share of chemicals and related products in India’s merchandise exports is 14.4%.
At the same time, HIL (India) Ltd., a public sector department under the Ministry of Chemical Fertilizers, has supplied 20.6 metric tons of DDT to South Africa on July 20, 2020 for its malaria control.
It is worth noting that in 2018, there were approximately 228 million cases of malaria worldwide, 93% of which were from Africa. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends DDT (DDT) as an effective indoor residual spray (IRS) chemical to suppress malaria mosquitoes. HIL (India) Limited is also supplying DDT to Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Previously, the company had exported 2500 tons of malathion to Iran for use in the locust control program, and exported agrochemical fungicides to Latin America to ensure the global supply of key chemicals.
