Nigeria's tomato production exceeds supply

According to a report from Nigeria’s “Daily Letter” on August 2nd, although Nigeria produces 10% of Africa’s tomatoes every year, its output is still in short supply. It needs to import a large number of tomatoes from abroad for food every year, and its imported tomatoes rank third in Africa. .
 
According to Usman, a Nigerian agriculturist, the main reasons for the low output of Nigerian tomatoes in recent years are poor weather, weak heat resistance, and lack of good storage facilities.
 
The Nigerian giant Dangote Group has invested in the tomato industry. GB Foods from Spain also invested in a tomato factory in Kebbi State, Nigeria, with an investment of 20 billion naira (equivalent to US$55 million). The plant can process 4 billion naira (equivalent to US$11 million) worth of tomatoes every quarter.
