WOAH: There is an outbreak of African swine fever in Latvia

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), on January 3, 2023, the Food and Veterinary Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Latvia reported to WOAH that an outbreak of African swine fever had occurred in Latvia.

 
The outbreak occurred in the districts of Latgarh, Vizeme and Kurzeme and was confirmed on 2 January 2023. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Autopsy and laboratory testing revealed that 11 wild boars became ill, of which 3 died, and 8 were killed and disposed of.
 
The outbreak is not over yet, and the Food and Veterinary Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Latvia will submit a follow-up report on a weekly basis.
