The United States released a cloth tool sampling method for beef cut and trimmed meat instead of the N60 cutting sampling method

foodmate 2023-02-10

On January 2023, 1, the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the "Cloth Tool Sampling Method for Cut and Trimmed Meat in Alternative to N27 Cutting Sampling Method" (Circular No. FSIS60-05), which has an implementation date of February 23, 2023 and an implementation deadline of February 2, 1. The Method requires the use of cloth tool sampling technology for daily confirmatory sampling of cut and trimmed meat in the United States to replace the N2024 cutting sampling method. Importers continue to use N2 cutting sampling technology to sample beef cuts in accordance with MT1 regulations, regardless of whether the products are frozen or thawed, to ensure the continuity of sampling work by importing enterprises. FSIS conducted a beef surface sampling study to determine whether a non-destructive beef surface sampling method (i.e., cloth tool sampling method) can provide confirmatory sampling of unprocessed beef cut meat, and found that the cloth tool sampling method was equivalent to the N60 cutting sampling method.
