Evonik upgrades German MMP factory
Recently, Evonik announced an investment of 25 million euros to upgrade and expand its methionine intermediate 3-methylthiopropionaldehyde (MMP) production plant in Wesseling, Germany. This latest move will further strengthen its global methionine production network. The renovation and expansion of the Wesseling plant uses a newly developed production process that avoids storage of chemical intermediates such as acrolein at the plant.
MMP is an indispensable component in the production of Evonik's MetAMINO (DL-methionine). This methionine precursor has been produced at the Wethering plant for over 50 years. Dr. Gaetano Blanda, global head of Evonik's animal nutrition business line, said: "This investment guarantees the long-term supply of MMP in Antwerp, Belgium, and strengthens the integrated production capacity of MetAMINO in Europe. This move reflects our better service of DL-methionine in the world Market commitment and ensuring a safe and reliable supply for customers."
