SHISEIDO LAUNCHES NARS IN INDIA
Japanese cosmetics giant Shiseido announced on February 10 the launch of its New York-headquartered makeup brand Nars Cosmetics in India via a strategic distribution partnership agreement with Global SS Beauty Brands Limited, a subsidiary of Shoppers Stop Limited.
The local partner is a subsidiary of Shoppers Stop, an Indian luxury fashion and beauty retailer. The company was established in 1991 and operates 8 high-end home concept stores and 142 professional beauty stores.
The beauty market in India has changed a lot in the past few years, and sophisticated consumers are actively adding globally renowned brands to their beauty product selection.
Brands that have relied on strong growth in China in the past have been looking around for alternative markets. Could India be the answer? Shiseido said it wanted to strengthen its portfolio of well-known skincare brands and accelerate growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
Through Nars India's debut, Shiseido stated that it aims to strengthen its renowned skincare and beauty brand portfolio and accelerate growth in the Asia Pacific region, in order to meet the diverse beauty needs of Indian consumers.
Collaborating with Shoppers Stop, Shiseido will further expand its business in India. Shoppers Stop is a retailer focused on beauty, with a wide network and omnichannel business.
Shiseido first entered the Indian market in 2001. Since then, the beauty market in India has undergone significant development, with mature consumers actively incorporating globally renowned brands into their beauty product choices.
Shoppers Stop Limited was established in 1991 and is one of the leading fashion and beauty brand retailers in India. The company is located in 96 department stores and also operates 8 high-end home concept stores and 142 professional beauty stores. Its omnichannel products cover over 500 recognized and trustworthy brands.

In addition to its founding brand, the company has numerous brands and subsidiaries worldwide. The company is headquartered in Tokyo and listed for trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
In 1957, Shiseido began selling in Taiwan, followed closely by Singapore and Hong Kong. In 1962, Shiseido expanded its business to Hawaii; In 1965, Shiseido Cosmetics Company was established in the United States. Sales in Europe began in Italy in 1968, while sales in Oceania began in New Zealand in 1971.
In 1985, Shiseido took the lead in producing sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid/hyaluronic acid) from non animal sources.
