Sipcam Nichino launches Tiofanil®FS for Peanuts in Brazil
Sipcam Nichino recently launched Tiofanil®FS, a peanut fungicide with Chlorothalonil + Thiophanate-Methyl, in Brazil.
According to Sipcam Nichino, Tiofanil®FS is specifically used for seed treatment, To protect leguminous crops from Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium flavus and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum.
Tiofanil®FS is an internal, contact, broad-spectrum fungicide formulated from the compound Chlorothalonil. Tiofanil®FS has technology to prevent fungal contamination of peanuts, which can cause considerable losses to production. Tiofanil®FS also helps growers manage fungicide resistance to other pathogens.
Brazil ranks 13th among the world's legume producers and 7th among legume exporters. In 2022, peanut exports amounted to about 285,000 tons, almost 40% of Brazil's national peanut production and 44 % higher than in 2019-20 (198,000 tons).
Fungicides are a class of agricultural chemicals most needed by peanut growers. Such products accounted for 42%($41 million) of total crop protection sales of $98 million in 2022, according to consulting firm Kynetec. Kynetec's recent FarmTrak survey also revealed the increasing economic value of Brazil peanuts due to their appeal to overseas markets.
