Fosun Pharma and IFC deepen partnership
On June 6, 2023, Shanghai Fosun Pharma (Group) Co., Ltd. announced a deepening partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which will provide two loans of a total of 50 million euros to Fosun Pharma subsidiaries to support the establishment of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and distribution centers in Cote d 'Ivoire.
According to the plan, Fosun Pharmaceutical will build a production plant for antimalarial products and antibiotics products near Abidjan, Cote d 'Ivoire. The project is planned to be carried out in three phases, and is expected to have an annual production capacity of 5 billion tablets after the completion of the three phases. A matching distribution centre will also be built nearby.
The West African region is known to be heavily affected by infectious and other diseases. This project has contributed to greater access to quality and affordable life-saving medicines in the region, thereby improving overall health. The project will also facilitate the transfer of medical and manufacturing knowledge to the African region, contributing to the long-term development and upgrading of the region's health sector.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sub-Saharan Africa accounts for more than 95% of global malaria cases and deaths. As the region addresses these public health challenges, it must also address others.
