Corteva Corteva intends to launch its Vorceed™Enlist™ corn product in Canada to combat corn rootworms and resistant weeds

2023-07-08

Corteva announced the launch of its Vorceed™Enlist™ corn product in Canada. Farmers will be able to use Vorceed Enlist corn technology in Pioneer® corn and Brevant® seeds to combat corn rootworms. The product will provide farmers with a variety of options to help manage stubborn and resistant weeds such as amaranth, canopyrum and broadleaf weeds

Vorceed Enlist corn technology combines three modes of action for above - and below-ground insect control, including RNAi technology. It is also tolerant to four herbicides: Glyphosate, Glufosinate ammonium, 2, 4-D choline, and FOP, contributing to weed resistance management. Enlist Duo™ and Enlist™ herbicides are the only 2,4-D formulations approved for use in Vorceed Enlist corn. When used as labeled, Enlist herbicide immobilizes the target crop, reducing pesticide drift and volatility compared to traditional 2,4-D formulations.

Jeremy Dirks, vice president of Corteva's commercial business in Canada, said: "We are raising the performance standards of the Vorceed Enlist corn by leveraging the most advanced weed control technology to secure the maximum yield potential, superior root worm control and more flexible weed management for Canadian farmers. The Vorceed Enlist corn will leverage Corteva's advanced genetic system, which has strong agronomic characteristics from the industry's largest corn germplasm library.

Through three modes of action targeting corn rootworms, the Corteva field trial showed that the adult occurrence of corn rootworms in western and northern Canada was reduced by about 99% compared to non-trait controls. As part of a corn root worm management strategy, Vorceed Enlist can help reduce the population of this pest.

Vorceed Enlist corn will be in limited supply in the 2024 planting season and added with more genetic traits and higher maturity in the 2025 planting season. The Vorceed Enlist corn, like all products developed by Corteva’s research and development program, must undergo a rigorous evaluation, testing characteristics such as rhizome strength, late stability and disease resistance in multiple locations, including the U.S. and Canada. Vorceed Enlist corn has been authorized in several markets, including the European Union and the United States, and individual traits in the product have received several import authorizations worldwide.
