India's Best Agrolife has entered into a sales agreement with Syngenta for Movondo (85% Pyroxasulfone WG)

2023-09-22

Indian agrochemical company Best Agrolife Ltd. (BAL) has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Syngenta to market 85% Pyroxasulfone WG herbicide under the trade name Movondo.

Pyroxasulfone is a pre-emergence herbicide for wheat, corn, and soybeans that provides excellent crop security by killing weeds while ensuring increased yields; Compared to other commercial herbicides, this product is more effective against broadleaf weeds and requires a smaller amount of application. 85% Pyroxasulfone WG can control Phalaris minor, the main weed in wheat.

Syngenta is a global leader in crop protection and seeds, with a significant share of the global herbicide and commercial seed markets. This agreement will help both companies maximize the value of this new herbicide and effectively establish the market for the product. With a market capitalization of more than 4.5 billion (about $54 million), BAL aims to achieve revenue of INR 3 to 3.5 billion (about $36 to $42 million) in the next three years in the Pyroxasulfone market.

Previously, India imported Pyroxasulfone from abroad, and after obtaining the local production registration of 85% Pyroxasulfone WG, BAL became the first agrochemical company in India to produce 85% Pyroxasulfone WG locally, its wholly-owned subsidiary Seedlings India Pvt. Ltd. The product will be manufactured under the Make in India initiative of the Government of India. This is the first time that Indian Agrochemicals has exported such molecules to its multinational counterparts, disrupting the traditional supply chain pattern of key compounds supplied to Indian Agrochemicals by multinational companies and marking a critical shift.

At present, BAL's three manufacturing facilities in Gajaraula, Greater Noida and Jammu and Kashmir, India, have an annual production capacity of 7,000 tons and 30,000 tons of technicals and formulations, respectively, and have more than 7,000 distributors, holding more than 450 formulations and 115 technicals production licenses, which is the largest product portfolio.
