The patent-pending technology, exclusively available to L’Oréal, is a waterless, low-energy, slow extraction process that meticulously captures the exact scent of an ingredient while preserving its essence. This innovative Green Sciences process not only ensures authenticity but also expands the fragrance-maker’s repertoire by incorporating 100% natural and pure scent extracts.
Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO in charge of Research, Innovation, and Technology at L’Oréal, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Cosmo International Fragrances, highlighting the power of open innovation and its alignment with L’Oréal's sustainability commitments. She emphasized the transformative experience offered by the Green Sciences extraction process, allowing the olfactive power of flowers to be fully appreciated, reminiscent of strolling through a garden, field, or forest.
Elevating natural ingredients while minimizing environmental impact is a shared vision between L’Oréal Groupe and Cosmo International Fragrances. The extraction technology, utilizing only air, captures the volatile fragrance molecules of flowers, fruits, and other natural elements without resorting to conventional methods involving heating, cooling, or chemical solvents. This approach not only maintains the integrity of flowers but also enables their recycling and re-use in a second extraction, contributing to waste reduction.
Cyril Chapuy, President of L’Oréal Luxe, highlighted the significance of the partnership in advancing fine fragrance crafting. He emphasized the commitment to sustainability throughout the fragrance value chain, from ingredient sourcing to refill adoption, as a core conviction. The collaboration with Cosmo International Fragrances represents a step towards a more responsible fragrance model, inaugurating a new era of mindful crafting for luxury fragrances.
Cosmo International Fragrances President, Marc Blaison, expressed excitement about working with L’Oréal as their inaugural partner, emphasizing the transformative potential of Green Sciences in large-scale perfume-making. The collaboration aims to deliver unique, consciously-made, and exquisitely executed perfume creations to fragrance enthusiasts globally, combining expertise in fine fragrances with a shared commitment to the planet.
With the fine fragrance market flourishing and consumers seeking novel accords, the first collaboration between the partners will focus on bringing the natural floral signature of tuberose to a future fine fragrance slated for release in 2024. This venture marks a significant stride in the fragrance industry, marrying innovation, sustainability, and authenticity to redefine the art of perfume-making.
