BASF's Surtain herbicide (Pyroxasulfon + Saflufenacil) is approved by the US EPA

Basf recently announced that its Surtain herbicide has been approved for use by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, but it still needs state approval.

Developed by BASF since 2012, Surtain's herbicide contains two active ingredients, Saflufenacil (Group 14 PPO inhibitor) and Pyroxasulfon (Group 15 growth inhibitor), to control 79 species of broadleaf and grass weeds, such as Amaranthus palmeri S. Watson and waterhemp. The herbicide was first announced in the spring of 2023.

Surtain's long application window, which can be applied from pre-planting to early post-germination, can be used as an all-in-one solution to help users work faster and more efficiently during the busy spring season. The product also has barrel mixing flexibility and can be mixed with herbicides, liquid fertilizers, auxiliaries and additives, including UAN and ATS.

Basf says growers are spending millions of dollars each year to control weeds in corn fields because of increased herbicide resistance. Surtain's unique chemical composition targets weeds at their most vulnerable, providing excellent control over some of the most difficult weeds currently facing corn growers.
