In a shocking development, Stemirna Therapeutics, a leading biotechnology company, has announced the suspension of its groundbreaking mRNA personalized cancer vaccine, SW1115C3. Mihitha Ariyapperuma, another key researcher, stated that the trial had not even commenced in Australia.

It is worth noting that despite the suspension announcement, the clinicaltrials.gov website still shows ongoing participant recruitment for the SW1115C3 study. This open-label Phase 1 research aimed to evaluate the vaccine's tolerability, safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy in patients with advanced solid tumors. The trial commenced in March 2022.
Stemirna Therapeutics's product pipeline comprises over 20 candidates across six major therapeutic areas. However, only three have advanced to the clinical stage, with the COVID-19 vaccine being the most prominent. Stemirna Therapeutics's COVID-19 vaccine obtained emergency use authorization (EUA) in Laos in December 2022, making it the first domestically developed mRNA vaccine to receive EUA outside of China. The company submitted a domestic EUA application to China's National Medical Products Administration in February 2023, but it is yet to receive market approval.
SW1115C3, the personalized tumor vaccine at the forefront of mRNA cancer research in China, now faces an uncertain future.
