Unilever considers selling skincare brands
Unilever is considering selling its two luxury skincare brands, Kate Somerville and REN Skincare, as the overall high-end skincare market declines.
According to Sky News, Unilever is working with consultants from PwC on the possibility of selling the two brands. The company acquired the two brands in 2015.
Kate Somerville is a celebrity-loved eponymous brand founded by a California aesthetician.
REN Skincare is committed to creating products for sensitive skin.
Previously, Vasiliki Petrou, CEO of Unilever's high-end skincare division, left. In June this year, Petrou established his own investment fund. During his tenure at Unilever, Petrou helped create the high-end skincare division in 2014 and led 10 acquisitions. The division owns Hourglass, Tatcha, Paula's Choice, and recently acquired K-18.
Unilever reported "lackluster performance" in its premium skincare division this quarter, particularly from China and the United States.
