Stahl Opens State-of-the-Art Polyurethane Dispersion (PUD) Production Facility in Singapore

ECHEMI 2024-10-18

Stahl has announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art plant in Singapore to produce polyurethane dispersions (PUDs). This strategic expansion is designed to better meet the growing demand in Asia and the South Pacific. The new plant underscores Stahl’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, while also supporting the company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.

Historically, Stahl’s PUD production has been centered in Europe, with products imported to Asia to meet market demand. With the establishment of the Singapore facility, Stahl can now streamline its supply chain, reduce lead times and improve its customer service throughout the region.

As such, this shift underscores Stahl’s long-term commitment to investing in the region and providing customers with faster, more sustainable solutions to meet the unique needs of the Asia Pacific market.

The new plant will focus on producing high-performance PUDs that have a range of beneficial properties that are critical to a variety of industries. These advanced PUDs offer excellent fastness, water resistance, print retention and high flex resistance, making them ideal for demanding applications.

Polyurethane dispersion technology plays a key role in reducing solvent use, making it an important part of Stahl’s wider sustainability strategy. By producing more waterborne coatings, Stahl is reducing the environmental impact of its operations and supporting the transition to more sustainable materials across industries. The Singapore facility will further explore renewable energy and bio-based formulations, advancing the company’s ESG goals and paving the way for future innovation.

“Stahl Singapore’s new PUD manufacturing facility is designed to serve the Asian and South Pacific markets, from China and Japan to New Zealand. This expansion supports our ESG goals by increasing production of waterborne coatings and reducing the use of solvents,” said Dennis Koh, Site and Operations Manager, Stahl Singapore.

“With this new development, we can streamline our supply chain and reduce lead times for our customers. We are proud to include PUDs in our service offering, enhancing our technical capabilities to collaborate on challenging projects. I am very proud of my team, who worked closely with the main contractor, Essential Engineering & Construction, to successfully complete this project in 18 months.”
