Sanofi Reports 14.4% Profit Growth, Surpassing Expectations, as Vaccine Sales Surge Causes Market Ripple
French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi reported its third-quarter financial results on Friday, showing profit growth that beat analysts' expectations. The increase was mainly due to a boost in seasonal vaccine sales. Specifically, Sanofi's operating income, excluding one-time items, reached 4.6 billion euros ($5 billion) in the third quarter, up 14.4% from the same period last year. The figure exceeded the average analyst estimate of 4 billion euros in a survey published on the company's official website.
During the quarter, Sanofi's vaccine sales increased 25.5 percent on a currency-adjusted basis to 3.8 billion euros. The result also beat analysts' expectations of 3.2 billion euros. The French drugmaker said the increase was mainly due to strong sales of its early flu vaccine and Beyfortus. Befortus is a drug specifically designed to protect infants from common respiratory viruses. With the strong performance of these two products, Sanofi achieved significant financial results during the quarter, demonstrating the company's strong competitiveness and market acumen in the vaccine market.
