Syensqo Expands Polymer Production Capacity for Life-Saving and Life-Supporting Applications

ECHEMI 2024-11-22

Syensqo, a global leader in high-performance materials, has significantly increased its U.S. production capacity for advanced polymers used in critical health, water, and energy applications. By expanding production of Udel polysulfone (PSU) sulfone polymers by more than 25% at its Marietta, Ohio facility, Syensqo is well positioned to meet the growing demand for innovative materials in key life science markets.

This production ramp-up supports important applications that impact everyday life. Syensqo’s sulfone polymers are used in life-saving and life-sustaining applications that enhance healthcare, such as hemodialysis systems and medical devices; play a critical role in water purification; and contribute to green hydrogen production systems, helping to reduce environmental impact and improve energy efficiency.

Peter Browning, President of Syensqo Specialty Polymers, explained, “Since we began expanding our sulfone polymer business three years ago, there has been a growing trend toward higher performance materials that offer a balance of mechanical, thermal and chemical properties. Syensqo is proud to offer sustainable advanced materials that meet the evolving needs of key industries such as healthcare, water filtration and hydrogen production. As demand grows, we remain committed to pioneering polymer innovation.”

The increased production at the Marietta facility complements the recent expansion of Syensqo’s Augusta, Georgia facility, which manufactures key components used in these high-performance materials. By strengthening its U.S. manufacturing presence, Syensqo is enhancing its ability to meet the growing demands of key markets, ensuring reliable access to essential materials that support healthier living, cleaner water and a more sustainable future.
