Sumitomo Chemical Acquires Syensqo's Liquid Crystal Polymer Pure Resin Business Assets

Sumitomo Chemical has acquired the liquid crystal polymer (LCP) pure resin business assets from Belgian company Syensqo SA/NV.

Through this acquisition, the company will acquire products and technologies from Syensqo to strengthen the system to meet new market needs and further expand the LCP business, especially in the fields of ICT and mobile applications.

LCP is a super engineering plastic known for its excellent heat resistance, fluidity and dimensional accuracy, and is widely used in electronic components of computers and smartphones.

Sumitomo Chemical has fully utilized its market-leading technological advantages in polymer materials and application research and development to continuously expand the LCP business to meet market needs.

With the increase in electricity demand and the popularization of electric vehicles, LCP has attracted much attention as a material for power devices, next-generation millimeter-wave radars for autonomous driving, and large-capacity connectors for data centers, and the LCP market is expected to expand further.

The LCP pure resin product technology acquired by Sumitomo Chemical from Syensqo is known for its high heat resistance. Through this technology, Sumitomo Chemical aims to double sales revenue in this business by early 2030.
