BASF India Expands Microcellular Polyurethane Production Capacity at Plant in Dahej
BASF India Ltd has broken ground on a new plant in Dahej to increase its Cellasto microcellular polyurethane (MCU) production capacity.
In line with BASF’s new “Winning Ways” strategy, the plant will feature state-of-the-art technology and automation systems to ensure compliance with BASF’s high safety and quality standards. The plant is expected to be operational by the second half of 2026 and will be equipped with a new mold line in the first phase, enabling Cellasto to meet the high demand of the fast-growing local market.
Committed to “Producing in India for India”, Cellasto established its first plant in Dahej in 2014 to provide noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) reduction solutions to the automotive industry.
Bjoern Kophstahl, Vice President of Global Business Management at Cellasto, said: “The new plant is the result of efforts to innovate production processes. If demand increases, the plant will have the flexibility to further expand production. We emphasize long-term commitment in order to better serve our Indian customers. I am confident that this strategic move will enable us to achieve continued success in India.”
“This new tooling line will enhance our capabilities to offer innovative NVH reduction solutions and continue to make us the partner of choice for our automotive customers,” said Alexander Gerding, Managing Director, BASF India Ltd. “BASF remains focused on delivering superior quality and customized services to meet the specific needs of the Indian automotive industry – this capacity expansion is a solid step in this direction.”
