Arkema Slashes Carbon Footprint by 25 Percent with Bio-Based Thickeners Across Europe
Arkema is going green in a big way. The global leader in specialty materials just announced the complete transition of its acrylic thickener portfolio produced in Europe to bio-based alternatives, delivering a carbon footprint reduction of up to 25%.
These next-gen thickeners, made with up to 30% renewable content, mark a pivotal shift in the coatings and adhesives industry. Hélène Pernot, Global Sustainability Marketing Director of Arkema Coating Solutions, stated that this innovation will empower customers to meet their climate goals and help reshape health and environmental benchmarks in home solutions.
Yohann Trang, Global Market Director for Building Materials, confirmed that these bio-based grades maintain equivalent performance and cost-efficiency compared to conventional versions. They’re suitable for a wide range of applications, from paints and plasters to adhesives and sealants, offering enhanced rheological properties without compromising quality.
The products will be marketed under the Rheotech™, Thixol™, and Viscoatex™ brands — the first to incorporate Arkema’s new bio-acrylate monomer produced in Carling, France. This shift also reflects Arkema’s firm commitment to boosting sustainability across the value chain.
