Dongsung Chemical Opens New Polyurethane Plant in Indonesia
South Korea's Dongsung Chemical has officially opened its polyurethane (PU) production plant in Karawang, Indonesia, marking a key step in the company's global materials expansion. The 81,000-square-meter state-of-the-art plant will produce 67,000 tons of polyurethane-based materials such as prepolymers, polyester polyols and polyurethane resins per year, three times the company's previous production in China, South Korea and Vietnam.
The facility features advanced automation and strong storage capacity to enhance supply chain resilience and is expected to generate annual revenue of approximately $150 million. Located near major logistics hubs, the facility will serve growing markets in Southeast Asia, the Americas and Europe.
Construction of the Karawang plant began in September 2023 and trial production was completed earlier this year.
Dongsung Chemical announced that Chairman Jeong-Ho Baek and others attended the inauguration ceremony. Dongsung also announced plans to enter the furniture materials market, expanding its business scope in the automotive, electronics and synthetic leather sectors. This milestone reinforces Dongsung's commitment to sustainable growth and positions the company as a leading polyurethane supplier in Southeast Asia.
